Audience Member Terrible, worst film I have ever seen! It was just so slow!! The main character said all of 10 words throughout the film. I do not recommend it is awful! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is hard hitting and extremely gritty. I'm from Ireland, although I've never been to prison - this film is almost exactly how I imagine it would go down. The director really does a great job of putting you into Michael's shoes. Highly recommend, would happily rewatch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review samuel l Michael Inside was a reasonable prison drama, but the writing and characters felt a bit one dimensional and off at times. The events were pretty predictable, especially the ending. Then the fact that this skinny kid can compete with these much bigger guys in prison seems a bit ridiculous, and some of the characters really don't have a purpose. The action wasn't that exciting as most of the time it was sort of hidden from view. The story seems semi-realistic but there are a few illogical plot points that let the writing down. I also had no empathy for any of the characters at all as they're all unlikeable. The acting was fine, the cinematography was decent, and there wasn't much of a soundtrack, but the music was acceptable. I prefer Starred Up which has some more intense action. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Audience Member Simply one of the most powerful films I have seen - bar none. I found the plight of Michael, a young Dublin lad, compelling and heart-breaking. He is a young man who tries to do the right thing in circumstances that present him with no winning options. It is finely acted and scripted and is animated by a raw authentic power throughout. Touching and unsettling. Directed with compassion and a fine instinct for cinematic narrative. Bloody good! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Brilliant A great movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing film showing the effect of drugs on the youth of Ireland and the broken prison system that does nothing to help youth offenders after release. Excellent acting and plot. Great all round watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Kevin Maher Times (UK) It's cautionary and terrifying with a tough fatalistic ending. Rated: 4/5 Sep 14, 2018 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times Good research must have helped Berry attain his 20/20 peripheral vision. No minutia or refraction-of-a-minutia seems false. Rated: 4/5 Sep 12, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's a prison film and a social-realist picture of the Loachian school: fierce, unsentimental, engrossing. Rated: 4/5 Sep 12, 2018 Full Review Chloe Leeson Screen Queens Frank Berry's Irish prison film Michael Inside... is a stripped back and unrelenting take on the sub-genre focusing on the long-term effects of incarceration and drug involvement on Ireland's youth Sep 17, 2018 Full Review Roe McDermott Hot Press Stunningly acted, never didactic and yet provoking endless important questions, Michael Inside is a searing portrait of a damaged system, and the boys we lose to it. Rated: 5/5 Apr 19, 2018 Full Review Katy Hayes Sunday Times (UK) Berry has a clear vision of our social problems; his film opens the doors of our prison system and draws the viewer inside.
