Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij european-films.net For viewers interested in the Franco-Algerian question but put off by Haneke's Cache or Bouchareb's Indigenes (Days of Glory), Thomas Gilou's comparatively breezy Michou d'Auber might be the perfect antidote. Audience Member Brillliantly done feelgood movie about reconciliation and identity between Arabs and ex-servicemen in a small rural village during the post-Algerian period. Great performances by Depardieu, Nathalie Baye and Samy Seghir. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Hormis l'enfant vedette, rien à sauver. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A brilliant and touching film. Effectively presents both a romantic drama and an examination of personal identity. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Very touching film. Depardieu is his usual brilliant self - thank goodness he did not make good on his threat to retire from acting. The speech he gives his foster son near the end of the film when his father comes to claim him is one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen in any movie, and if you have kids, you will be moved to tears by it as I was.
