Mid90s tells a clear-eyed yet nostalgic coming-of-age tale that might mark the start of an auspicious new career for debuting writer-director Jonah Hill.

An earnest effort that nonetheless relies too heavily on gimmicks. Go to Full Review

The attempts at authentic stoner dialogue soon become tedious, with too little plot or character development grounding the inanity. Go to Full Review

Lending the film considerable ballast is an affecting performance by Sunny Suljic. Go to Full Review

Slender from a narrative standpoint, Mid90s largely succeeds thanks to the authentic characters -- and even more authentic dialogue -- offered by Hill. Go to Full Review

In his directorial debut Jonah Hill proves that he understands how adolescence is not just a phase of life, but rather an attitude that carries as a souvenir several scars and several blows that mark us for the rest of our lives. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Mid90s struggles with an identity, but manages to be entertaining and exotic. The cloud of memories remind all of us of our youth and the life-or-death struggles we went through in order to be the adult at the end of that journey. Go to Full Review

Bobbo K @RT84120498 3d SPOILER AHEAD!!! My brother had me watch this. The ending is what it needs to be considering the car crash, I think it was reasonable. Personally, I would have ended the film with no dialogue to try make the scene feel different. Ray and Fourth Grade are the best characters, but this film makes it clear how flawed all the characters are. Fuck Shit is okay but kind of an idiot. But there has to be a film every now and then where most of the main cast are douchebags, because like the world isn't perfect. The way the film starts doesn't really explain why the story as a whole exists, it just seems Stevie finds them cool and they like him. Stevie having sex with a girl much older than him was something I didn't expect to be so uncomfortable with since he is a boy and the girl is older, but I am glad I was made uncomfortable or I would be worried. The skating scenes are the best part. I don't know whether it portrays the 90s well, talk to a kid from then. Do not watch with children. I didn't even make it all the way through because of the BS and fabrication of how things were. Jonah Hill, you should be ashamed, you may have lived the 90’s but you did not grow up in this culture. I’d have more to say, but I won't. I would recommend not watching for people who actually lived the 90’s. See more Keith B. @Okbullard Jun 5 Wow nice job Jonah Hill, excellent film. I'd never heard of this one but what a nice surprise. Sunny Suljic was outstanding in this. There was plenty of excitement ,drama and sadness . It's definitely worth the watch. This movie even made me start skating. Absolute Cinema. See more Steve T @SteveTren Apr 29 Brilliant and relatable. True masterpiece of film making. It felt natural and unscripted. Truly immersing the viewer in the era. See more armi T @RT03170796 Apr 20 I haven’t seen a coming of age movie in a looooong time. I didn’t know about this one. This is 9 years after it was released and I think they did an excellent job with capturing the time. I loved seeing the younger brother Stevie go through his emotions and reasoning. I also loved the end because it portrays strong social values that reminds of what the 90s were without phones. See more Read all reviews
