We care about and root for these teens, as they do for each other. Their diverse backgrounds offer fodder in the script, from writers Shea Serrano and Jason Concepcion, for some cleverly funny heckling among local teens.

This is like an edgy after-school special and so refreshing! Such a nice break from movies that constantly sexualize teens...it's not earth-breaking territory, not cerebral academia, and there is no huge underlying theme. It's just about a quirky group of teens doing silly teenage things while one teen struggles with impending change. As an adult, I absolutely enjoyed it. Definitely something to watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Miguel Wants to Fight is a fresh and funny spin on the kung fu dork coming-of-age trope. The leads are perfectly cast, and have great chemistry. Every joke lands. Overall, a feel-good film that makes you appreciate your loved ones and all the weird ways humans deal with big life changes. Will definitely watch again with friends.
