Katie Walsh Los Angeles Times At times Miles feels a bit rickety around the edges, but the character at the center is instantly relatable and has a relaxed charm that makes the story compelling. Jun 14, 2017 Full Review David Rooney Hollywood Reporter The bittersweet pangs of lived experience supply a pleasing ripple of authenticity throughout Miles, which helps keep it engaging even as the conflicts become increasingly manufactured. Jun 14, 2017 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times It's hard to root for a protagonist who is focused only on his own narrow needs and seems indifferent to the broader issues his tale raises. Jun 8, 2017 Full Review Ben Turner The Pink Lens Miles' storyline also plays alongside his mother's with equal screen-time and yet it's his name that takes the film's title, deceiving us into believing he is some kind of landmark hero. Which he isn't. Rated: 3/5 Sep 1, 2021 Full Review Alexander Ryll Gay Essential Miles is gay and we know it. His mother knows it. And the town knows it - whether they care or not. But that aspect of Miles' life is actually very secondary to the film's main thrust. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 15, 2019 Full Review Stephen Saito Moveable Fest Though its lead character may feel trapped by his surroundings, "Miles" finds inspiration in them, itself something to celebrate, but even more so when it's conveyed as jubilantly as Adloff does here. Audience Member A father who cheated on his wife and spent all of his son's college savings on buying his way too young lover a car. A mother who can't get the money back. A son who tries to deal with life with the ways he can but fails and absolutely nothing works out. I think I have never seen a movie that truly shows life as it is as this one does. This is not the typical movie where the main character gets all he wants. Also, he is gay and the movie did not focus on that at all. Most movies where the main character is gay, he is either coming out or kissing with other guys or having sex. Seriously, this movie shows real life, how thing really are for most people and that not getting what you want doesn't mean that this is the end for you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Sweet movie with likeable characters, but the glowering omission of how Miles finally got to move to Chicago ruined the story for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I hated this movie. It showed a lot of hate and yes that is what happens in real life. But what the fuck!!!! I mean they kick him off the team even though legally they can't yet still do. The moms boyfriend did it. And at the end they smile at each other as if they get back together and she's still not defending herself after her late husband cheated on her? This movie sucked!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Low budget, poorly acted with a bizarre ending that fell flat. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This is truly how it feels to grow up in a small town in the US. Anyone who doesn't want to conform to the "norm" of society is ridiculed and bullied. The movie made me tear up because it paralleled my life experiences. I highly recommend this film to anyone. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie started a few interesting conversations but didn't see any of them through to the end. The characters were pretty average, but I still ended up feeling for them. One positive note is that this is one of the only LGBT+ movies I know that isn't a romance.
