Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times A movie about the farm crisis that is sometimes too contrived, but finally very moving as the story of an angry reaction to the squeeze on small farmers. Rated: 3/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Cathy Burke United Press International When the movie shows the brothers picking their dangerous path as much from selfishness and arrogance as from desparation, the film has a gritty, believable realism. Dec 9, 2017 Full Review Chuck O'Leary Fantastica Daily Rated: 3/5 Sep 28, 2005 Full Review Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat Spirituality & Practice Dissipates much of its energy with plot developments reminiscent of "Badlands" and other movies about celebrity lawbreakers. pierce k Why is this film so underrated it's one of those films that are noe well known but are a fun watch so i recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/23 Full Review mutlu t it could have been a good film like Thelma and Louise but it is a totally forgettable film. the major problem here is the script. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member There are three easy ways of losing money - racing is the quickest, women the most pleasant, and farming the most certain. - Lord Amherst Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member An oldie but a goodie ('88) ... not well rated online, but I really enjoyed it, directed by Gary SInise starring Richard Gere & Kevin Anderson with Penelope Ann Miller, Helen Hunt, John Malkovich, Laurie Metcalfe, Brian Dennehy .... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Two brothers lose their Iowa farm, and the older one (Gere) is so tortured by this failure that he burns the farm down and drags his brother along on an aimless run from the law. The story would have been stronger if we were given more of a backstory of what happened between his childhood (a brief glimpse is shown at the beginning) and the foreclosure of their home.
