Gil Perez Cine-Mundial Has excellent music. [Full review in Spanish] Sep 19, 2019 Full Review Michael E. Grost Classic Film and Television Failed musical about painfully dated subject of minstrel shows, mainly avoids stereotyping black people, but has few positive virtues other than musical number A Great Day's Coming. Steve D Dated now that the spectacle fades. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Audience Member as noted before, the score is top-notch, including the 'cameo/guest starring' of john raitt the year before 'carousel'. benny's way with a tune here is heart-tugging and in feeling with the plot, which is not as bad as some have commented, and is more than adequate in keeping with the time it was filmed and the period it represents. (so there, you old farts.) gladys george is, as always, great in anything. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Minor ?B? musical, but it did nab two Academy Award nominations, for score and the song ?Remember Me to Carolina?. It is rather dated with all the black face in the movie, but the score is indeed good. Other than that it isn?t very memorable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member 58/100.
