      Critics Consensus

The Miracle of Morgan's Creek finds director Preston Sturges at his most zanily subversive -- not to mention hilarious.

David Parkinson Empire Magazine Sturges' no-holds-barred comic cristicism of American Forces abroad is still challenging and funny. Rated: 4/5 Dec 10, 2014 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Done in the satirical Sturges vein, and directed with that same touch, the story makes much of characterization and somewhat wacky comedy, plus some slapstick, with excellent photography figuring throughout. Nov 13, 2007 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Caustic and chaotic in the arch Sturges manner, it's probably his funniest and most smilingly malicious film. Nov 13, 2007 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Not only is your cinematic education woefully incomplete, but your life has missed the boat on several hours of pure pleasure... Jul 31, 2023 Full Review André Bazin L'Écran Français Sturges delights in forcing upon his characters... the entire weight of weight of the domestic prejudices, social conventions, and moral imperatives that could exist in a small American town during wartime. Oct 13, 2022 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia I don't know at all what Preston Sturges was thinking when making 'The Miracle of Morgan Creek', but I find his screwball comedy artificial, mediocre, and very dull when it tells his moral tale about marriage and war veterans. Steve D A mess that is more annoying than funny. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Alec B Preston Sturges appears to have pitted Eddie Bracken and Betty Hutton in a contest to see which of them could be the most hysterical in any of their scenes together (spoiler, its always Bracken). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review s r Crazyness for its day. I only liked it for the ridiculousness that it tried to get away with. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the craziest screwball comedies ever made. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review andrey k Pobably the most hilarious comedy I've ever seen; only "Some Like It Hot" can compete for this title with this picture. It is fun cubed. The acting is superb, those long takes of their quarrels and confusing moments is a pure masterpiece done with a crazy fervor. The film can be perfectly summarized with the phrase 'the spots!' Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If you haven't seen this, you are in for a treat. Betty Hutton and the rest of the cast are hilarious, as is the plot line. One of my favorite movies of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
