Inspired by true events, QUEEN OF COAL is a story of perseverance, passion, and dreams that defy gender boundaries. Carlita became the first female miner in a town where women were forbidden from entering the main source of local income: the coal mine. A superstition held that women brought bad luck and caused cave-ins, reserving mining work exclusively for men. As a trans woman, Carlita managed to break into the mine, disrupting the system from within and sparking the flame of a revolution.

In the end, Queen of Coal never finds a groove beyond its cookie-cutter biopic beats, leaving the story feeling more like a checklist than an authentic human experience, since no two lives are ever the same. Go to Full Review

The problem is that the central conflict arrives too late, half-heartedly, and is resolved somewhat haphazardly. This makes Miss Carbón a strange case in which a little more time would have been beneficial. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The contradictions that define Carli are also—in the eyes of Macri and his film—those that define societies, not just Argentina's. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Miss Carbón thus situates itself within a current of marginal and peripheral cinema that seeks to tell real stories of exclusion and perseverance, showing that it is possible to speak about diversity through committed filmmaking. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Juan S @Juan1987 Jan 5 Emocionante.
