Johnson’s carapace is detailed with skin-like textures, swollen bicep veins and living tattoos that offer him encouragement and advice. The uncanny valley is right between his pecs. I got distracted trying to find his nipples.

Entertaining enough, but one glaring point of live action vs. animation is that when there are dead spots in the story it's deader live. Lead actor Catherine Laga’aia is radiant as the courageous Moana in redundant territory.

It's colorful, it's vibrant, the songs are still terrific and Dwayne Johnson is a hoot as the fabulously coiffured demigod. Is it in any way necessary? Of course not.

it's essentially the same movie, just live action. that doesn't mean it's bad but it's just the same movie. so if you've seen it, you'll probably want to watch it again just to see the rock do his thing in live action, but otherwise it's literally just the same movie.
