Loosely based on real historical figures, this drama focuses on the empire built by enterprising young criminals Lucky Luciano (Christian Slater) and Meyer Lansky (Patrick Dempsey). Along with Bugsy Siegel (Richard Grieco) and Frank Costello (Costas Mandylor), Luciano and Lansky establish a revitalized mob in New York City, effectively displacing their predecessors. This is kind of like the "Young Guns" of mafia movies as Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey lead this film as Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky, two young men growing up in a mobbed up NYC and making their way up the ladder playing both sides of the warring top bosses. I like this movie mostly because I love gangster movies and this one has some instances of ultra violence and a pretty great cast.

A pretty good gangster film that is no "Goodfellas", but with the help of the brilliant cast and nicely developed story, "Mobsters" managed to be entertaining.

The plot is iffy, but for what the movie is, I think it does the job. Christian Slater does great as Lucky Luciano. People rate this way too harshly.

Wow, the critics really hated this movie - and I don't get it. It's definitely not Goodfellas, but it's a serviceable, if not enjoyable flick. If you're looking for something different to watch, and you like 1920's gangster movies , then I think this would be an enjoyable selection.
