Forrest Hartman Reno Gazette-Journal A watered-down version of Sister Act. Rated: 2/4 Oct 14, 2005 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson New Times Those outside the Mormon fold may be mystified by some of the running jokes -- just what is the big deal about scrapbooks? Oct 8, 2005 Full Review Phil Villarreal Arizona Daily Star The story still has more to offer to members of the church than hardcore mob-tale fans weaned on GoodFellas and The Sopranos, but less so than you'd think. Rated: 3/4 Oct 6, 2005 Full Review Audrey Rock-Richardson Tooele Transcript-Bulletin (Utah) In an admirable show of versatility, Moyer delves into cultural self-examination. Rated: C+ Sep 16, 2005 Full Review Wade Major Boxoffice Magazine A routine but entertaining fish-out-of-water comedy. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 9, 2005 Full Review Jeff Vice Deseret News (Salt Lake City) Fortunately, most of the jabs are generally good-natured, and the cast is pretty likable. Audience Member This movie doesn't know whether it wants to be a comedy or a drama. It lacks any real tension or drive. The dialogue is extremely heavy-handed, and the jokes fall flat. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Odd casting choices and a contrived plot to center the uninspired comedy around. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Delightful. One of the better Mormon movies. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly better than the other LDS movies. It wasn't as good as "Saints and Soldiers" but it was still and enjoyable flick that deserves it's "Fresh" Rating. And even if you aren't a Church member, the witty relate-able jokes are sweet and fun for the whole family. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the new genre of light-hearted humorous Mormon-friendly flicks that portrays contemporary LDS life with positive but honest self-deprecation. If you've ever been to Utah--which is where these Mobsters find themselves--you quickly discover that you have but three options: rebel, conform, or leave. The Catholic family in this film did all three, in that order. The order I chose was a little different but I exercised my free will while experimenting with all three choices. Mobsters and Mormons is a bit cheesy but provides enough entertainment for a mindless Saturday afternoon of avoiding paying bills or other such drab necessities of modern American life. Mormons will appreciate the way the film tells their story. Gentiles, as non-Mormons are called by members of this church, will better understand the method and the meaning behind much of what appears to be simple madness. And those of us labeled apostates, or even worse, Sons of Perdition, get just under two hours of therapy for the flat rate charged by NetFlix. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A Sunday evening at the Verstoppen's :) SO funny and such a great depiction of how peculiar Mormons are to "outsiders." It raises a great question - can everyone be welcome at Church? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
