Audience Member amazingly beautiful film, it was like watching someone paint a masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member M strongest attribute is in the visuals. The use of light, location and contrast bring about an absolutely beautiful looking film. The film is both dark and chilling as well as light and whimsical. It very much reminded me of a David Lynch film. This love mystery thriller (yes you read that right) is filled with moments of reality blurred together with dreams, flashbacks, pseudo reality, waking dream, non-reality and all manner of things to keep you guessing as to what is real, what is plot, what is metaphor, what is this movie really about? Eventually you realise you aren't watching a murder mystery nor a conventional thriller but a beautiful love story told in a bizarre method. The main problem with the film is in length and editing. I realise the director probably had a lot of shots he wanted to include but after awhile of telling the same things over and over, I felt like I just wanted to story to move forward. The same problem arises at the end of the film. Again the director had multiple moments where he could have completed the film but chose to move forward to another piece. Had this film been a little tighter it could have easily grabbed 3.5 maybe even 4 stars. This film isn't for everybody. Perhaps a little to art house for the general public but if the idea of a "love mystery" intreagues you, give it a shot. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member amazingly beautiful film, it was like watching someone paint a masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Un gran paseo visual. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member It felt like a two-hour music video in terms of the sophistication of its themes, the coherence of the narrative and the lushness of the visuals. The director clearly has a good eye for colour and light, and draws a lot of inspiration from manga. Unfortunately, he crosses the line from cryptic and incoherent into schmaltz at several points, and several sections of the film could easily have been plunked into some romantic J-Pop video. And it really, really didn't need to be this long. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member After the dissapointing Duelist, where Lee's visuals outweighed the story was happy to see M is his most fantastic film yet. M is a mystery, but no murder mystery, it's a love mystery in a dreamlike world. Lee uses his artistic style perfectly, capturing those bizarre, surreal moments of the mind. There still isn't much of a story, the intrigue relies a lot on confusion, but M is very much an accessible art house film. If you are looking for the true beauty of cinematic expression, then this is the film for you. I'm currently listening to the soundtrack, which is an incredible piece of work on it's own terms.
