Xan Brooks Guardian Krzysztof Krauze's droll, unassuming little biopic stands as a fitting memorial to a life on the fringes. Rated: 3/5 Sep 14, 2007 Full Review Ailsa Caine Little White Lies My Nikifor doesn't take a scenic tour of artistry through the Vaseline smeared lens of romanticism, but for those unfamiliar with Poland's national treasures, it may be a struggle through cold waters. Sep 14, 2007 Full Review Wally Hammond Time Out The performances are solid and small points are made about the plight of outsider art and human bonding but as a study in dying or elderly eccentricity, it's been eclipsed by recent works. It isn't the most sophisticated biopic around but that's quite fitting for a subject who took such pride in his own naivety. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 14, 2007 Full Review Tom Dawson Total Film A spare yet affecting portrait of Polish 'outsider artist' Nikifor Krynicki, bringing to light the winter years of his life. Audience Member Dreamy but also brutally honest about people and their behavior and wishes and lusts. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a remarkable biographical film with class. The actor who played Nikifor gave probably one of history's best performances as a stubborn old man. The plot flow is quick, but with the right timing and pace, both which perfectly enrich the storyline and demonstrate the many details of the lifestyle or the culture of the locals through different seasons. The camera angle used is kind of ameteur-ish but did not disturb my observation at all. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A nice portrait of a very unlikely genius. Notable for the amazing performance by Feldman. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I hesitate to peg this as a biopic since the movie's main character, famed Polish naivist painter Nikifor, remains rather elusive throughout. Krauze interestingly enough chooses to focus on his mentor Marian Wlosinski instead, who in fact pretty much gave up on his own carreer as an artist to support his protegé. The result is an inspiring study of compassion and devotion. The movie of course ultimately belongs to Krystyna Feldman, already in her late eighties by then, for her inspired portrayal of Nikifor. A marvellous performance. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member the old lady is very cute! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
