Giuseppe Sedia Kino Mania My Father’s Bike is a welcome alternative to festival-targeted European movies often characterised by excessive dryness. The intergenerational lake bathing scene is one of the most convincing in new Polish cinema. Rated: 4/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Chcia?em bardzo obejrze? ten film i nie zawiod?em si?. :) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This stands for a noble purpose no doubt, though not the best movie to discuss the gap between generations. Events are so simple so the story became a bit shallow, that no profound challenges appear even the issue of fugitive grandmother was not enough to unify the family with no full agreement about reclaiming her. It's good to suggest for new generation that they're modified versions made by time of their predecessors. in any case, it is good to recognize that all human beings make mistakes too. The most remarkable thing is the fabulous locations which make the movie such bright pictures of striking nature may rob your sight. Good angles in shooting , quiet system in editing, exciting production design, and nice cinematography turn watching into visual pleasure.. but this is not enough. Trzaskalski job with TV star Artur Zmijewski looks quite good, but I think Michal Urbaniak is the most obvious among actors, he is convincing.I love the jazz soundtracks, and adore the track on which the beginning credits is shown. what is so suitable to make viewers get involved in the case of confusion and courage which seems containing a big deal of hesitation throughout the notes the grandma's left before her departure... Really wonderful. Don't expect so much of it, but it is so nice visually to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Film ukazuj?cy konflikt kilku pokole? w jednej rodzinie. An intimist Polish film with famous Polish jazz musician Michal Urbaniak in his first lead role as a retired self centered musician and father of a gifted pianist and concert touring son. Urbaniak's wife has left him. A family crisis ensues where 3 generations of men (grandfather, son and teenage grandchild) attempt to bring her back. My Father's Bike is a road movie that explores the relationships between the three men. Personalities are strong, communication is not easy and conflict often erupts. But through the journey, the men get to know each other better. While the trip has a cathartic effect on all three men, the story doesn't go overboard like a Hollywood production. The story is well constructed, building each character subtly with impressionistic touches, and weaving music as a central character. It's a very well observed character study with laughs and poignant moments. The film has almost a universal appeal (who hasn't had problems communicating with their parents and/or their children...). Performances are very good. Urbaniak in his first role finds the perfect tone. The landscape is beautiful, going through hilly and green countryside landscape in the lake region. The film won best screenplay at the Polish film festival. Cinema is about generating emotions through compelling and interesting storytelling. This unassuming film is all of that.
