Whang Yee Ling The Straits Times (Singapore) [Director Nico van den Brink] roots these cultural-historical influences to a strong sense of place -- yes, that spooky landscape -- and turns an over-familiar tale into a uniquely local folk horror. Rated: 3/5 Aug 18, 2022 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore Nico van den Brink’s Moloch is a Gothic horror story about the endurance of violent patriarchy across generations. Rated: 5/5 Aug 3, 2022 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts Moloch has the usual elements, but done right. Rated: 7/10 Jul 28, 2022 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Moloch is folk horror of a witchy, matriarchal, evil-secret-passed-down-for-generations ilk, well-acted and handsomely crafted but over-familiar nonetheless. Jul 27, 2022 Full Review Joel Fisher Battle Royale With Cheese Taking inspiration from Dutch folklore, Moloch presents a unique story which could only have come from Holland, but it unfortunately does feel a little formulaic with too many elements. Jul 26, 2022 Full Review Kevin Carr Fat Guys at the Movies This is a slow-burn horror flick with a particularly ark edge. Rated: 3/4 Jul 22, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

James C Creepy, slow-burn creepy mystery with a killer ending that really stays with you. Incredible! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/25 Full Review Jessicia M The film opens with a two-minute sequence of title cards and credits. Once the movie begins, it plunges straight into a creepy, unsettling opening scene that immediately captures your attention. The story features dialogue in a different language, with some scenes in English, but it's easy to follow even for viewers who dislike subtitles. The set design is impressive, with dark, atmospheric lighting that still allows visibility, adding to the overall eerie vibe. The film quality and coloring are crisp and well-maintained, enhancing the immersive experience. I really enjoyed this because most films these days are too dark. The story itself isn't groundbreaking—yet it’s told in a very interesting and engaging way. Some depictions of felt genuinely terrifying, and the film introduces a cool twist that keeps viewers on their toes. As it went on, the dialog got weaker and the pacing got slower. The romantic scene that was in it, was a bit jarring and felt really out of place. Additionally, the scenes with kids were strange, partly because they were not the greatest at acting (not their fault) and it took you out of the story. The ending was good and it pulled at my heartstrings a bit. Overall, a well-crafted horror film with good visuals, compelling storytelling, and some genuinely chilling moments. Worth the watch, just not something I could personally say was a strong movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Zachary A Depressing. The movie revolves around a family curse. Overall it’s not a bad movie, and is definitely on the slower side. The small bit of cgi they used is bad and unnecessary, as they could’ve easily just used practical effects. This definitely isn’t for casual horror fans, but even if you are a horror fan idk if I can recommend this one. Not bad, not good, just meh. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/15/24 Full Review Jeremy Awesome folklore movie. Great twist and pacing. Well worth a watch. I'd say it's about 50/50 in Dutch and English. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
