Aja Romano Vox The film's interweaving of past and present creates a visually unsettling tapestry of disbelief. Rated: 3.5/5 May 16, 2017 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times The strangeness of this killing speaks for itself, and the director, Erin Lee Carr, largely just lets it do so. May 15, 2017 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Director Erin Lee Carr has an incredible ability to answer the questions as they arise to the viewer. Rated: 3/4 May 15, 2017 Full Review Dylan Brennan Nonfics A remarkable retelling that hands its story over to the victims. Mar 21, 2019 Full Review Helin Jung Cosmopolitan Thanks to Carr's efforts, we finally get to meet Dee Dee's father Claude Pitre and other members of the Pitre family, who were absent from Dean's BuzzFeed story. And oh my god, do they have tales to tell. Jeff M I have to admit I'm a bit obssessed with the Gypsy Rose Blanchard story. I watched the 8-part limited series THE ACT on Hulu in 2019. I also recently binged the 6-part PRISON CONFESSIONS OF GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD on Lifetime. So what better time to revisit this 2017 documentary, which I first watched a few years back after hearing about THE ACT. It's as fascinating a crime story as I've seen, not just for the crime itself but for the events leading up to the crime and basically Gypsy's whole life in general. It's equal parts amazing and appalling. If you plan to watch THE PRISON CONFESSIONS, I recommend watching this fine documentary first. It contains interviews with many of the same people, so it's a rare occasion to see how things have changed between the middle of Gypsy's sentence and the eve of her parole. Is Gypsy exploiting her circumstances for money and fame? Are we enabling an individual involved in murder? Does she deserve to be compensated considering the hell she endured for the majority of her life? I'm conflicted on all these counts, which is why I find it all so fascinating. If you're unfamiliar with the case, this does a good job of filling you in on the details - it's sorta like CliffsNotes. If you want the full enchilada, also check out the other programs I mentioned above. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Audience Member Pretty well done documentary - gave me a better insight to to is case Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Madly W When I first read about Gypsy Rose's story I was immediately invested. There isn't many movies/documentaries made on her story but I personally found this one very intriguing and factuality. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review Jessabee It was pretty good except they show far more than they should honestly. Don't watch if you don't like seeing corpses with multiple stab wounds up close (or just skip past that part). I just saw it as a little too intrusive into the families' lives. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good documentary about the case, seems to offer different angles and features the actual interviews that you can find on YouTube. Informative and interesting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Very well done documentary! The very true and telling story was itself extremely disturbing, which almost always guarantees, if done correctly, a GREAT MOVIE!
