Audience Member Wasted my time on a long work day. Added to my sad Monday beginning of the week Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A complete wasted one hour and thirty minutes. The reason I don't go to theaters. Since I am a photographer I'll give a sacrificial one star, NO just a half of star. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Shoulda seen the end coming from a mile away, but I didnt which is probably why I kinda, in a small way, liked this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Even though I liked the idea of the plot, I did not care what happened to any of the characters, just like the photographer became bored with his job, mid film I got bored with all the protagonists. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Intense and emotional in all the right ways, but I'll never watch it again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review walter m In "Monogamy," Theo(Chris Messina), a photographer, and Nat(Rashida Jones), a guitarist, may not have much but they have each other.(Theo also plays the piano but has no wish to get up in front an audience like Nat does.) In three and a half months, they will be married, despite his father giving them grief over the lack of money they make. For Theo, that comes from photographing weddings and a side business where he pseudo-surreptitiously takes photos of clients. The latest is Penny(Meital Dohan) who tends to be more revealing than originally imagined. "Monogamy" gets off to a fine start with its natural performances. It also provides some incisive commentary on all the nonsense and stress that go along with getting married. And then after an improbable plot point, it just runs out of ideas and steam.(Even before this, any scene involving Theo's friends was sucking the oxygen out of the room.) After a while, I was so desperate for any sign of life that I would have happily accepted any cliche you could think of, but no luck there, either. In the end, the movie gets the tone of sexual frustration right while at the same time making the audience extremely frustrated. Linda Barnard Toronto Star The conceit is a decent idea for a thriller, if not a terribly original one, but Shapiro loses the rhythm with a plodding story and a pat ending we can see coming a mile away. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 31, 2011 Full Review Tom Long Detroit News Monogamy is a tough little movie. And a good one. Rated: B Mar 25, 2011 Full Review Ty Burr Boston Globe There are certain filmmakers who should have their Cassavetes card revoked, and on the evidence of "Monogamy,'' Dana Adam Shapiro has joined their ranks. Rated: 2/4 Mar 24, 2011 Full Review Amie Simon Three Imaginary Girls Director Dana Adam Shapiro has turned out a fascinating exploration of what can happen when we make assumptions about the person we love and the relationships we're in, and how easily we can destroy ourselves in the process. Mar 8, 2019 Full Review Christian Toto What Would Toto Watch? Monogamy asks us to root for lovers who seem disinterested in their own future. Rated: 2/4 Jun 12, 2011 Full Review Brian Orndorf BrianOrndorf.com I walked away from the film disappointed, but there are some powerful ideas and performances buried somewhere in here, underneath the performance art itches.
