Nathan Rabin AV Club Squad's gleeful monster mash anticipates bloated CGI orgies like Van Helsing, which likely cost a hundred times as much, yet boasts a hundredth of Squad's scrappy, ramshackle charm. Rated: B Oct 5, 2018 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times "The Monster Squad" is such fun, it makes you wish you were a kid again. Oct 5, 2018 Full Review Kim Newman Empire Magazine Sharper than a stake in it's genre references, The Monster Squad appeals to cinephile as well as teen sensibilities. Rated: 4/5 Oct 5, 2018 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Cloddish rather than clever. Rated: 2/4 Dec 26, 2023 Full Review Kristy Strouse Wonderfully Weird and Horrifying The Monster Squad is an enchanting cinematic experience, brimming with nostalgia and punctuated by unforgettable one-liners. Nov 14, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Thanks to Stan Winston's monster designs, what could have been a largely schlocky endeavor gains moderate gravity, particularly with a werewolf transformation sequence. David J A fun Halloween tradition soaked in 80s glory. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/24 Full Review Bayou F The memories of my childhood come flooding back when I watch this classic Horror/Comedy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Torin F THE MONSTER SQUAD has many of the classic 80's tropes that make movies from this period so endearing, but rushes through them all in its notably short runtime, giving the whole thing a derivative, Made For TV feel. The movie hasn't aged particularly well, either---aside from some quality practical effects, there's heavy reliance on a group of rather mean kids, one of whom is called "Fat Kid" throughout. There are much better 80's movies to watch instead. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/24/24 Full Review Audience Member Ok I grew up watching this movie and I just recently watched it and it’s really dated. It’s also a very slow movie. The make-up isn’t as good as I remembered. I’d so be down for a remake of this movie! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Samuel S Monster designs are great. Plot is fine. Some really nice 80's aesthetic, though not much of it was retained in my brain after the film. Fun monster fluff, a little edgy for today though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Koen H Pretty awesome still ! :) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
