Steve D One of the slowest films ever made. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review Audience Member A small film that seems a little contrived these days but it's a good little film that tells a story that is still relevant today. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Colin Firth grows a cool mustache and shows a bit more range. He plays a stutterer 23 years before Kings Speech. Foreshadowing? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this movie in New York in 1987. A friend and I sat speechless after, pondering by the impact of the script and the effects of war on the artist, his quest for sanity through his work, the impact of his expertise on the cummunity, his historical discovery through the uncovering of the mural and his relationship with a woman so cut off from intellectual stimulation and erotic outlets. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Wonderful story, great acting. Lonely souls finding love that cannot be.... a truly beautiful film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting film which makes me want to read the novel, but unfortunately it never gets up much steam and leaves several loose ends dangling at the end. Also, the last scene, featuring as we learn in the credits, "old Birkin" was completely incomprehensible to me. An independent feeling and lots of pregnant pauses. Enjoy. Michael Bronski Gay Community News (Boston) As minimal as A Month in the Country seems to be, it packs a wallop most larger films never achieve. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Ángel Luis Inurria El Pais (Spain) A pleasant an enjoyable film, A Month in the Country gives the formal achievements of British cinema a certain spirituality, sensuality, and feeling. [Full Review in Spanish] Apr 21, 2020 Full Review Molly Haskell Vogue Ultimately, A Month in the Country is too full of exquisitely quiet moments that never explode. Feb 27, 2020 Full Review Nathanael Hood The Retro Set ...what a precious, unexpected gem. Rated: 7/10 Dec 28, 2018 Full Review Matt Brunson Creative Loafing A Month in the Country is a movie of morsel-sized pleasures, yet there's a sizable joy to be had in catching Colin Firth and Kenneth Branagh at the start of their long and impressive careers.
