What to Know

Critics Consensus

With its shallow characters, low budget special effects, and mindless fight scenes, Mortal Kombat Annihilation offers minimal plot development and manages to underachieve the low bar set by its predecessor.

Lawrence Van Gelder New York Times Here's the lowdown on the latest chapter in Mortal Kombat: deadly dull. Jul 20, 2021 Full Review Joe Holleman St. Louis Post-Dispatch Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is not just a movie based on a video game, it is a sequel to a movie that was based on a video game. That pedigree should tell you all you need to know about the quality of this movie. Rated: 1/4 Jul 20, 2021 Full Review Michael Saunders Boston Globe The filmmakers tried to get complicated -- and pay a price. The story lines are obviously designed to link the fight scenes, leading to moments of hilariously bad dialogue. Jul 20, 2021 Full Review Robert Roten Laramie Movie Scope I barely managed to make it through Mortal Kombat Annihilation because the dialog is terrible, the story makes no sense and the kung fu action scenes are substandard. Rated: F May 16, 2022 Full Review Alistair Lawrence Common Sense Media A critical and commercial fatality, this fantasy action-adventure flopped so hard it sent its characters back to their original, video-game realm until a 2021 live-action reboot. Rated: 1/5 Apr 13, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins The climax devolves into a mess of pitiful CG animalities - video game finishing moves that definitely shouldn't have been translated into the realm of cinema. David W Just about watchable if you really have nothing else to do. The dialogue is terrible but some of the fight choreography is OK. A resounding meh. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Frank G One of the worst abominations to ever be filmed. Good choice of characters, good choice of plot continuation from the first movie, everything else is horrible. It's almost in so bad it's good territory. The special effects are hilariously bad. The acting is over the top and insane. Some of the fight scenes are ridiculous. It honestly looks like a fan made film but not even as good as most of those. Very unintentionally campy and the source of a few food memes but that's about it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Korra N There is some so-bad-it's-good fun to be had with this abysmal movie, but wow is this one of the worst sequels ever made & one of the worst movies ever made. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Guy C hilariously bad film with lines that predate The Room in the cringe delivery this is a movie so bad its hysterical. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review tommy J Horrible movie. Such an injustice that this followed as a sequel to such an amazing movie. Terrible graphics, bad casting. Most of the original cast didn't reprise their roles.
