      Critics Consensus

Moxie comes up a little short on its titular ingredient when it comes to fully addressing its story's timely themes, but this sweet coming-of-age story is still easy to like.

Steve D Strong idea bad execution. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/17/23 Full Review Sunny S Loved this film and the message behind it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/13/23 Full Review Maisey T I loved this movie and the message, it was very empowering. All of the actors did a great job too! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/23 Full Review Izaya S Very good. Wished it was longer. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/06/23 Full Review Jocelyne M Full disclosure- apparently there is a book. I haven't read it yet. This movie did well at depicting the process of someone trying to care about a topic, who is not completely affected by it. Hence Lucy being the muse and Vivian acting as a catalyst. The character flaws make them human, like the girl at the end being proud of causing the mascot guy to break his arm- and everyone cheering for her. Even though he was in attendance supporting the group, and was just as much a victim of the ‘men' as they were. (The high-fiving incident). The fact that these sorts of incidents were included in the film makes me think it was intentional, and you need to read between the lines to see the actual characters development is not as linear as it seems. Should they have gone to the women's soccer event instead? yes. Should they have shown the main guy actually suffering from the consequences of his actions? maybe. The reason for why they didn't is because this conversation still needs to be had, even if it's with yourself as you watch the film. Outside of that, some of the dialect between the students seemed out of touch for a film depicting Gen-Z. It had the potential to say more- but didn't, or chose not to. Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Well-attuned to the blind spots and sanctimony of the well-meaning, it's a worthwhile thought and conversation-starter for anyone with teenagers. Mar 18, 2021 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) But too often the film is, ironically, oddly conservative and it aims for, but never quite reaches, the heights of sharper, better teenage movies such as Booksmart, Election and Mean Girls. Rated: 3/5 Mar 13, 2021 Full Review Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Ideologically, I am down with this completely, but it is very on-the-nose. Mar 10, 2021 Full Review Marya E. Gates Moviefone A poignant coming-of-age dramedy. Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Jillian Chilingerian Offscreen With Jillian There is an attempt to make it a comedy but it never gets there due to the cringe that comes out of most of the characters' mouths Aug 22, 2023 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online It can be occasionally cringe-worthy, but most of the time its witty, funny and empowering, and the target audience will undoubtedly take something away from it.
