Man, this type of role is really out of pocket for Eddie Murphy. He isn't funny, and he isn't particularly interesting. Go to Full Review

It's repugnant for its dehumanizing view (however unintentionally so) of a black man, and repugnant for its emptying-out of one of the great black performers of the time into a sanitized symbol of acceptable blackness. Go to Full Review

Certain frustrations aside, Mr. Church does make you feel and on several occasions brings a quiet sense of beauty in a life lived with love and a few heartwarming moments. Go to Full Review

Charles J @RT14307085 1d Excellent movies showing Eddie Murphy‘s other side first time seeing it would recommend watching. Excellent acting very moving movie. See more Darlene S @RT53314173 3d One of the best movies Eddie Murphy has ever made. It was rich in character and content. It was, indepth, with meaning, powerful and wholesome. Something Hollywood is lacking in most of its movies these days. Considering he's usually playing a comedic role, it was good to see him step out of that box to play a serious role. Some people won't celebrate you only because they want to continue to type cast you and pigeonhole you in a role that they've only seen you in. Good job Eddie Murphy branching out to choose a role that is not usually you. You are awesome in this role. I hope you don't let people dictate how you show your greatness. It is a wonderful movie. All the other actors did an excellent job. See more S S. @SShol 5d Genuinely one of the most wholesome and sweet movies ever made. Eddie Murphy is at his absolute finest acting - surprised he didn’t do more of these serious roles, he’s a great actor and the story is wonderful. One of my favorite movies to watch! See more Barbara R. @Radstar47 Apr 13 I loved Eddie Murphy in this movie. I love the entire cast. I don't know why anybody wouldn't. Just about halfway through but I like it See more Jerome A @RT39062061 Apr 1 A terrific, accomplished group of actors, especially Eddie Murphy, deliver wonderful performances in this emotionally charged film. The film is extremely wise and it’s emotional content. We see the young who rebel at the disruption by a cook who "invades" the close relationship between mother and young daughter. Wish you her gradually adapt, and then come to love Eddie Murphy, the cook. She grows up before our eyes,, gaining in sensitivity and gratitude along the way. We see the mother gradually grow weak, and her daughter avoiding her because of her heartbreak. Eddie Murphy‘s performance as the cook is exceptional. He is understated, playing a huge range of emotions. The mother’s performance and the daughter’s performances are likewise first rate. The film moves along slowly, but with great interest in the inner workings of the characters. There is a lot to learn here about grace, about tolerance, about heartbreak, and about character. See more Rhaimonde S @Rhaimonde Jan 30 An unexpected and remarkable performance from Mr. Eddie Murphy in a story that will touch your heart and lift your spirit. See more Read all reviews
