Katie Rife IGN Movies The practical effects and grotesque puppet design are appealing... But inconsistent performances and contradictory characterizations make it difficult to invest in the real-world stakes. Rated: 5/10 Oct 11, 2024 Full Review Britt Hayes MovieWeb Set in 1993, with a VHS aesthetic and gory practical effects to match, Mr. Crocket spins millennial nostalgia into a perfectly passable supernatural parable. Rated: 3/5 Nov 5, 2024 Full Review Julian Lytle RIOTUS Mr. Crocket is a good Halloween horror movie and a concept to start a cool Hulu franchise if it’s given the opportunity. This could be a fun watch for you on October 31st. Rated: C+ Oct 30, 2024 Full Review Jorge Loser Espinof Modest but full of ideas, Mr. Crocket is a horror noir that turns a Bill Cosby type into a Freddy Krueger for those with '90s nostalgia. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 30, 2024 Full Review Adam Olinger Adam Does Movies (YouTube) "Mr. Crocket" has a fun concept. It sadly never does anything with it. Oct 20, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Equal parts fun and frightening with a fantastic lead performance and cool practical effects, Mr. Crocket injects some colour and humour into the genre that we haven’t seen for some time, though the script could’ve used some finer tuning. Lee B Such a waste of time. Trash!!!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/30/25 Full Review Stuart R The [ideas] and the [world of] the movie had me invested, but the writing kept the film from fully landing. 🍀 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Dave Darwin B Its Mr. Rogers meets Sadako in a movie that scares me the most. Brandon Espy's Mr. Crocket is worth it great and scary. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Tommy H I mean, it's pretty awesome. The practical effects and acting were top-notch, and although it may not be original for a horror movie, it's still good. I wish this movie was more recognizable Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/26/25 Full Review matthias s *Mr. Crocket* is a glorious mess — and I mean that in the most affectionate way. The opening sequence? Pure absurd brilliance. A twisted Mr. Rogers figure doling out justice to abusive parents with lo-fi charm and creative practical effects? Count me in. There’s something so fun and unhinged about it, like a fever dream built on VHS tapes and moral panic. But man, that kid... I didn’t just dislike him — I *hated* him. Not just the performance (which, meh), but the way he's written: a spoiled, whiny gremlin with a saintly, overworked widowed mom. Still, there's magic here. The bones of a franchise are all laid out. With more budget, tighter writing, and a director who knows how to sharpen the chaos, Mr. Crocket could be the next Freddy Krueger. As it stands, it’s a cult curiosity — rough around the edges, but weirdly unforgettable. Just give it a sequel already. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Taylor W Almost a “one note joke” scenario, thankfully it’s a damn good joke. The premise alone is a refreshing dose of “anti-nostalgia”, there are certainly some story and character missteps, but for a directorial debut this one has a lot of imagination and promise. Perfect PSA for anyone who ever used a TV as a babysitter Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/25 Full Review Read all reviews
