Katie Rife IGN Movies The practical effects and grotesque puppet design are appealing... But inconsistent performances and contradictory characterizations make it difficult to invest in the real-world stakes. Rated: 5/10 Oct 11, 2024 Full Review Britt Hayes MovieWeb Set in 1993, with a VHS aesthetic and gory practical effects to match, Mr. Crocket spins millennial nostalgia into a perfectly passable supernatural parable. Rated: 3/5 Nov 5, 2024 Full Review Julian Lytle RIOTUS Mr. Crocket is a good Halloween horror movie and a concept to start a cool Hulu franchise if it’s given the opportunity. This could be a fun watch for you on October 31st. Rated: C+ Oct 30, 2024 Full Review Jorge Loser Espinof Modest but full of ideas, Mr. Crocket is a horror noir that turns a Bill Cosby type into a Freddy Krueger for those with '90s nostalgia. Oct 20, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Equal parts fun and frightening with a fantastic lead performance and cool practical effects, Mr. Crocket injects some colour and humour into the genre that we haven’t seen for some time, though the script could’ve used some finer tuning. Castro I Surprisingly effective and interesting plot Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Audience Member I am not American, which makes accessing Hulu content a bit more challenging. So, as you can imagine, being a film buff, I was disappointed with Hulu for gatekeeping such an enjoyable horror movie from me. Mister Crocket is definitely in my top five horror movies of 2024 so far! While it isn’t innovative or groundbreaking, it features great acting, impressive effects, and a solid story. Sometimes, those elements alone are enough to turn a movie into something special. I really appreciated the concept of a 90s children’s TV host being a disturbed killer who, with his own twisted moral compass, believes he is saving the kids. The fast-paced nature of the film kept the momentum going from start to finish, leaving no time to catch your breath! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Samuel A Think Beetlejuice meets PeeWee’s Playhouse. Although the performances of the two lead characters are very solid, this movie doesn’t seem like it knows what it wants to do. It’s just goofy enough to not be genuinely scary, and just gory enough to not really be funny. I saw the only twist in the film coming from a mile away. I love the horror genre and I believe there is a space for these kind of movies, but this one doesn’t quite pull it off. By the time they find the way to get to the villain, it was hard to not mentally check out. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Billy C This is an amazing begin horror movie filled with plot twists story and a few scares! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Audience Member Alright, there are times where films like this do it right. This is not one of those times, it honestly feels like it just wants to cash in on the trend of evil children's media. A trend that has been around as long as creepypastas. I had low expectations going into it, but I thought it was still going to be somewhat enjoyable. I sat through the whole thing and it was not worth it. Mr. Crocket's motivations were weird as hell to be fair, his dad beat him as a kid so he killed his dad. Then he got killed for kidnapping a kid named Anthony and blah blah blah now he is killing bad parents ever where. The end of the film they do a "twist" where the kid whose name escapes me at the moment has Mr. Crocket in his head. The kid says to the other kids he is his father figure. Which prompted the teachers to talk to his mother. Perhaps it is supposed to set up a sequel, I might watch it, I might not. Pretty lame movie 1.5/5 stars. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Todd L Super fun, cool time period setting. Would love to see a sequel. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Read all reviews
