Synopsis
In this documentary, director Emile de Antonio attempts to debunk the illusion of FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover as a stalwart upholder of American principles. The filmmaker examines the often ridiculous contents of Hoover's secret files and shares his own anecdotal experiences as a target himself. Instead of a hero of liberty, Hoover is revealed as a man drunk with power and obsessed with denying basic rights to American citizens who were unlucky enough to fall victim to his private crusade.
