Almost everyone likes the new, fresh-faced teacher at school, Mr. Traill (David Farrar), a hit with the students and teachers alike. One exception, however, is fellow teacher Vincent Perrin (Marius Goring). An acknowledged mediocrity, he fears that an unfavorable comparison to Traill could easily cost him his job. He privately confesses his anxiety to the school's headmaster (Raymond Huntley), who in turn blackmails Perrin into serving his own sinister ends.
