But because it doesn't take itself too seriously (and because the interaction between its players is charming and smart), Mumford works as an example of harmless fun for smart audiences. Jeffre L Lawrence Kasdan wrote and directed. A wonderful off-beat little tale. Surprisingly delightful Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review kevin c Lawrence Kasdan film sees a small town called Mumford and a new psychiatrist played by Loren Dean who becomes pretty popular with most patients however questions arise about his past and training. Decent flick. Also features Hope Davis, Jason Lee and Martin Short. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review steve d uninteresting charecters and a script with little to say. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A comedy? A think piece? An independent film? Yes, yes, and yes. The unconventional romantic comedy has a stellar cast and is very underrated. You will be glad you watched this one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review jon c Martin Short, Jason Lee, Alfre Woodard, Zooey Deschanel along with several others in a comedy about an unusual approach to therapy directed by Lawrence Kasdan who's primarily known for a lot of George Lucas productions takes a new angle with this one Dr. Mumford is the town's best therapist but the truth is he's never practiced it in his whole life so he takes a majority of his sessions just putting up with their ramblings without giving a second thought every one of his patients sheds a mask of themselves to see what the real issues are but he has a mysterious past which everyone is unaware of of course there are those who doubt his profession and his odd methods of therapy there might be a silver lining though as his continued masquerading is actually helping improve so many people's lives plus he takes a romantic interest in one of his clients helping her see past her own problems and confronting them head-on is it morally, ethically wrong of Mumford to continue what he's doing or is it an unexpected miracle he's enriching these individuals' moments they didn't know they could have? I guess at some point we all need someone to listen to even if they are untrained professionals Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Not a laugh out loud comedy, but I found myself smiling a lot. This is a very pleasant movie. There's something intriguing about almost all of the many characters, Mumford most of all. It just always seemed like I was curious about what he would say or do next, even though everything he said or did was very low key. This actor nailed his character.
