Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault The idea of a pre-Oscar Helen Hunt as Pam Smart sounds a lot more guiltily pleasurable than what you end up getting. Rated: C Aug 31, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Deena K While it is an older produced movie, I believe it does clearly portrait the truth of Pamela Smart and the young children involved. Obviously, because of its production period, it's not the best. Putting all of that aside, the portrayal by Helen Hunt did an excellent performance and the other casting did well too. I would have liked to see more of the trial in the movie, that always adds to the authenticity. It did do a great performance of Pamela Smarts personality and deviance. Overall, I would recommend this film to anyone interested in what actually happened prior to her husband murder. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Audience Member Helen Hunt was beautiful as always but it wasn’t a good story to tell. No good court room scenes just provocative and drama. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Jeff M This is an average television movie which had the misfortune of coming out shortly before a brilliant theatrical film from Gus Van Sant called TO DIE FOR with Nicole Kidman, which has a very similar plot. It's impossible not to compare the two, and Van Sant's film is infinitely superior in every conceivable way. There is no spark of imagination here, nothing cinematic whatsoever. It comes across as some kind of re-enactment you might find on a 20/20 segment. Allen deserves credit for bravely sporting the most ridiculous mullet this side of Joe Dirt. Hunt is passable in the leading role, but this is certainly nothing special, and there is nothing here that would lead you to believe she'd become an Oscar winning actress in a few short years. LA LAW fans will find it interesting to see late actor Larry Drake portraying a defense attorney here, a stark contrast to his Emmy winning role as Benny Stulwicz. TV fans will enjoy seeing some familiar faces here and there, but that's about it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Steve D Don't ask where it would be without Hunt.
