After Ruth Raymond (Mary Carlisle) discovers that her real father is railroad tycoon Luke Carson (Berton Churchill), she's kidnapped for her newfound fortune. Saved in the nick of time by oddball private eye Godfrey D. Scott (Charlie Ruggles), Ruth gets sent on a cross-country train trip from Los Angeles to New York City. With the help of Scott, her devoted boyfriend, John (Russell Hardie), and best friend, Georgia (Una Merkel), Ruth battles against an unknown murderer who's targeting her.
