Critics Consensus

Stylish production and an all-star ensemble keep this Murder on the Orient Express from running off the rails, even if it never quite builds up to its classic predecessor's illustrious head of steam.

The actors here try too hard to flesh out roles that are little more than stock types. Go to Full Review

[Kenneth Branagh] doesn't bring much new to the basic conception-a bunch of famous actors play eccentrics cooped up on a train, with secrets to be unearthed. But he does embellish the template with glossy extras. Go to Full Review

There's something quaint and comforting about this film and its brand of old-fashioned storytelling, where coincidences are extremely likely, everyone somehow knows a countess, and a man puts honor above all else. Go to Full Review

The movie tries every trick up its sleeve to divert the audiences’ attention from what is really important and intriguing here: the mystery behind the murder of Mr. Ratchett. Go to Full Review

10/17/2024 Loved it! Great movie, it's entertaining! See more Alexander A @Alex_Adavar 11h A visual stunning film, great for a lighthearted, cosy night in. 4 stars because the plot is utterly predictable and I found myself saying many of the dramatic lines aloud before the characters did, but I still enjoyed the experience. A good comfort movie all in all. See more canary f @Philipgs Dec 29 A mixed picture. The actors and actresses in almost every role are from the top of their professions. The dialogue, however, lets it down badly at times. There are cringingly awful segues into forced politically correct scenes involving a black passenger, etc. There are long periods where dialogue is almost inaudible and balance with music is very bad. Very obvious CGI effects are difficult to analyse - they are so obvious, the director must have meant the audience to realise that they were Roger Rabbit style effects. But those effects sit awkwardly with the live action. The film is in a way beautifully shot, in dense colour, contrasting with the white outside. Individual shots are often superb. The dead body on bed in 1/2 screen alongside Poirot, etc. Absolutely nowhere near as good at the incredible David Suchet version nor as good as the equally glamorous Peter Ustinov film. I’m watching for first time over Christmas. It’s a film that’s probably limited to that time of year! See more J.T. H @JTH006 Dec 16 Stylish and interesting, but nowhere near the level of the original 1974 adaptation. See more Zema K Dec 1 This Orient Express is a first‑class ride in style, with Branagh’s mustache stealing the spotlight. The star‑studded cast keeps the journey lively, but the mystery sometimes derails under the weight of spectacle. It’s a polished trip worth boarding, even if the suspense occasionally misses its stop.
