In this true story, Rev. Tom Bird (Terry Kinney) and his secretary, Lorna Anderson (JoBeth Williams), have fallen in love and want to run away to start a TV ministry. But they both have spouses, and Lorna's husband, Martin (Terence Knox), doesn't want a divorce, despite his wife's infidelity. When Tom's wife, Sandy (Annabella Price), dies in a car accident, police officer John Rule (Keith Carradine) suspects foul play, but the investigation stagnates -- until Martin ends up dead, too.
