Nicolae P @cinemagie Dec 26 The film plays a risky card: almost everything rests on dialogue, and the action unfolds in a single room with just two characters. And, surprisingly, it works. With a minimalist film like this, the story is what matters. Even if it’s not exactly fresh out of the oven, I devoured it with real appetite. The most important narrative element is the killer. He isn’t built as a sideshow monster, but as a man who knows exactly what he’s doing. When you find out the motive behind the murders, you might even agree with him. Naturally, the pace is deliberately slow. The film doesn’t rush to satisfy you. At times, it even challenges you to sit with discomfort. That can be frustrating for anyone expecting a "classic" thriller, with revelations every ten minutes. But for those with patience, the tension builds slowly and steadily. It was good - especially the premise and the setting. Great atmosphere - feels like a Korean David Fincher movie: all gloomy, cool camera moves, strong sound. Acting? Convincing, though sometimes a bit cringy (but hey, that's the charm). The problem is the usual Korean twist fever - twist after twist after twist until you forget what the first one even was. And in the end, we find out the movie's actually not a good (a bit dragged-out) thriller, but a family d(o)rama. Yeah, "what a twist!", but I'd rather not have it.
