Audience Member My Magic comes off as festival-merit bait because of the narrative and approach, and especially since itâ(TM)s based in Singapore â" which, from an outsider and a visitor, is viewed as wealthy, industrialized, stable, and prosperous with satisfied citizens. Yet even so, because of the fact that Singaporeâ(TM)s film industry is small, young and unknown gives an average viewer outside of the tiny city-nation new insight â" which itself gives the movie an edge and flair. Because of those outlying factors as well as its simple presentation with a lot of heart, My Magic deserved its standing ovation at Cannes. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Heart warming... *sob**sob* Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Maybe it can be a conventional story about relations between father and son, but with a very original main character: an overweight magician and fakir. Despite the end is extremely walt-disney-style, the film has interesting social values, as a good document to know more about the less wealthy side of the highly developed Singapore.
