Marshall H Learning it was a Lifetime movie from another reviewer helped my rating…context! Jennifer Beals did a fine job. The plot, however, seems under-researched. Dating new members of 13 step meetings is referred to as "13th Stepping," and is against the protocol of one's recovery program. It makes no sense that Charlie is thought to be this great guy, serious about his program AND half-hazardly playing with his own sobriety by dating a new member after the first meeting she attends (and is referenced to be always doing this). Sure, it happens but members aren't revered by the rest of the group when it does. Continuity was lost here, making it hard to trust the writing of the film as would be the case for anyone in 12 Step recovery (which is a hell of a lot of people). Hate to think a movie centered on 12 Step recovery would alienate everyone who is actually in a program IRL. We all suspend our beliefs about reality when watching movies but there were so many nonsensical parts to this, I couldn't. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review Steve M Thin plot, our heroine never can spit out the truth so the movie runs for 2 hours instead of 30 minutes. Okay, likable enough. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review Audience Member "Sarah" is pretty good for a Lifetime TV movie. Sarah (Jennifer Beals) lands up as part of an AA group, but she went to the meeting, not because she is an alcoholic, but because she followed a hot guy into the meeting. Of course since AA meetings are all about trust, there is a small problem with her little white lie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member this was a great movie.
