Childhood friends Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) and Michael O'Neal (Dermot Mulroney) had a deal to marry each other if they were still single by age 28. Now, four days before her 28th birthday, O'Neil announces that he's marrying a gorgeous 20-year-old named Kimberly (Cameron Diaz). Although [Hogan] stages most of the scenes in a straightforward way for Friend's Wedding, there are some charming, offbeat touches here. One wishes he'd mined some of the story's kinkier subtexts a bit more, but hey ... this is a commercial-minded flick.

Much as I hate to say it, the film belongs to the casually wisecracking Everett... Without him, this would be a sweet but mundane romantic comedy. With him, the funny scenes are so joyous you don't mind the dull spots.

Horrible toxic movie. sends an awful message. This is what I (valued audience member) would’ve liked to see:Julianne, a well renowned food critic, attends fancy restaurants to review the finest delicacies. What the audience doesn’t know is,the food she critiques is actually sourced by her and cooked by the same chef.Julianne spends nine years befriending Micheal (just as she has done with previous men with similar personalities).She continues to feed his ego-driven/ deeply insecure personality so he can do what he does best,string her along. Little does he know Julianne has a plan. She has been working with Kimberly to prepare the finest dish on the menu (which is the meal she tries at the start of the movie). Kimberly pretends to be head over heels for Micheal and the two fight over him.One day, they both conspire to meet Micheal in the same location, a dark alleyway leading to a secret kitchen. Here, he is cut to pieces and cooked,becoming one of Kimberly’s most popular menu items.
