Zack Handlen AV Club Director George Mihalka gets effectively naturalistic performances out of his leads, as well as an intermittently eerie mood, but ultimately, it's a movie enjoyed more for what it could've been than what it actually is. Rated: B- Oct 5, 2018 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Quickly devolves into a piece of hackwork. Rated: C Sep 10, 2005 Full Review Tom Buckley New York Times ''My Bloody Valentine'' probably won't make you shiver with fright, but it's almost certain to make you squirm, first with irritation and then with revulsion. Aug 30, 2004 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Even if it was aiming to cash in on the Valentine' Day setting, the connection to the holiday only heightens the absurd and entertaining horrors contained within its run time. Michael a classic! One of my favorites Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/25 Full Review Kimberlee and Adam Great hosts and a good movie Thank you... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review MR M My Bloody Valentine (1981) A bloody good Valentines. Director: George Mihalka Cast: Paul Kelman, Lori Hallier, Neil Affleck, Keith Knight, Alf Humphreys, Peter Cowper and Don Francks. Plot: In the year 1960 six miners are trapped underground. Harry Warden the lone survivor is found but in a deranged state. Shortly after on valentine day Warden murders those deemed responsible of the explosion. Now twenty years later Valentine day is fast approaching when a killer start terrorizing the town once more. First off if your looking for a movie to watch this valentine then My Bloody Valentine ticks all the boxes! My Bloody Valentine is creepy, suspenseful, and glory which is all the need from a good old slasher movie. However this movie tells different themes of love and mystery. When you think of great 1980s slasher movies you trend to hear, Halloween, A nightmare on elm street and Friday the 13th. Now My Bloody Valentine might not the heights of those three, never the less this is a bloody good time which got me thinking what could of been if they made this into a franchise. With an amazing opening scene which you'll never forget, it is truly amazing. The design of the killer being a miners is a classic look and one which is creepy and will live long in the memory, the performance of the killer was physically terrorizing and the stature of him was demanding the screen time. The kills here are truly some of the best you will see in slasher movie history given the nature of the kills and how gruesome some of them were, Even the ones off screen made you use your imagination with the bloody nature the body were found. When it comes to the mystery of the killer they only really lead you to think of two suspects which by the end when the killer is revealed was very obvious, With a tact on backstory which makes no sense. Even giving the fact that the killers reveal was obvious, this does not take away from a great third act with the killer playing cat and mouse with his victims in the creepy setting of the underground mines. The performances in My Bloody Valentine are nothing to write home unfortunately, with some very weak side character that are only they're for the kill count and even when being killed the acting at times is laughable. The main character which are not bad just very generic for a slasher movie. I will say Don Francks really stole every moment of screen time as Chief Newby. From a movie making view of things, giving the fact is this a low budget slasher from the 1980s the make up, set designs and costumes very hold up to todays standards. Overall My Bloody Valentine is a great watch for an slasher fan and is worth giving a watch if you haven't seen it yet. You can buy or rent My Bloody Valentine on amazon prime. Rating 6.6/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review CodyZamboni Z Solid horror movie from the early 1980s, with genuinely scary images, A killer that has true menace. A few smart characters, Some cute actresses. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review Oaklee D A rare case of liking the remake more than the original film.
