Mark T There are two sides to every story. In the middle we often find the truth. Glorifying the dead is common. Not appreciating them when they are alive is even more so. As a child your opinions on people and things are often created for you by the ones you are surrounded by. Any Negative opinions as a child usually result in angry feelings as an adult. Any positive opinions are usually adored without real reason. The type of feelings you feel deeply but don't really know why, so you don't question them, you just stubbornly feel. When you grow up it's now up to you on whether or not you hold onto those feelings. Most do because it's easier. In this coming of age film the main character didn't have to come to that crossroad on his own. It was brought to him when his dad died and with the help of the people in his complex he can now work through his past. Whether he likes it or not. If not for how this movie was edited together I don't know that it would have a lot going for it despite having a good storyline. But why focus on that? The movie is as perfect as it could have been. The actors all get their shot at showing their acting chops, including Chris Pontius who I love but should stick to playing "Party Boy". The main character shows depth in his role. A character that many of us probably relate to in some way. So if you can relate to being an angsty youth in need of a life change, watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Story meanders, disconnected. More concerned with visuals than putting time into strong character and story development & depth. Hard to care for the main character -- vanilla and one-speed...snarky and melancholy and dispassionate. OK we get it...after 15 minutes. Rinse, repeat. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Valerie F Wonderful moment in time. I liked it all; music, casting, acting, script, locations and filming. There are always two sides of anything in life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/02/23 Full Review Audience Member My Dead Ex is a nice effort from director Fabio Frey, but the journey of its main character never really gets beyond moping in long-shots and dwindling conversations, while the moments that really do have a impact are quickly forgotten. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Elisabet A Meh, it passed the time Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/04/22 Full Review Audience Member Loved it! That Pedro Correa is a star!! Great story. Artsy shots. There are some laughs, some tears, all around great film. And you have to love a story that starts out in Reno. Glenn Kenny New York Times The gear-grinding tedium of the movie’s taking-responsibility scenario is occasionally broken up by not-quite-lyrical sequences of Los Angeles sunsets seen from car windows.
