John (John Hargreaves) is a classical music composer and Melbourne DJ who arrives home one night to learn that his wife, Helen (Wendy Hughes), is having an affair. After a fight, she abandons him, taking their young daughter, Lucy (Lucy Angwin), and moving out. Overwhelmed, John's sanity is challenged as he succumbs to despair. His attempted suicide and the natural death of his father prompt a reconciliation between husband and wife, but their deep-seated tensions don't stay dormant for long.
