Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times [A] restrained and ethically nuanced documentary. Rated: 5/5 Jan 20, 2010 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Valuable historical document. May 7, 2009 Full Review Lee Marshall Screen International The Rwandan genocide of 1994 has spawned a number of feature films, but Anne Aghion's remarkable documentary about the 'Gacaca' community tribunals is the most calmly moving guide yet to the emotional landscape of those who were left behind. Jan 20, 2010 Full Review Donald J. Levit ReelTalk Movie Reviews While 'My Neighbor, My Killer' should be applauded for avoiding the call to sensationalism, its beaten-down, nearly toneless low key grows repetitious. Jan 15, 2010 Full Review Robert Roten Laramie Movie Scope There are no talking heads to explain away the genocide in dispassionate, academic terms. This film shows us the victims and the perpetrators straight on. Rated: B Dec 3, 2009 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Aghion's educational film best serves as an important historical document. Audience Member The Gacaca tribunals are the legal process where the victims confront the accused in open forum in front of the village; some of the stories are more compelling than others, but it was powerful to see everyday folks making their cases instead of polished lawyers. This process is more about people trying to reconcile the past brutality--seems impossible, but I hope it helps. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
