Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times This movie is joyful from beginning to end -- a small treasure, but a real one. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 24, 2010 Full Review Paul Attanasio Washington Post You end up siding with "My Sweet Little Village" as it rejoices in the texture of an ordinary community. Aug 23, 2010 Full Review Vincent Canby New York Times The Menzel films have become increasingly small and slight and sort of unctuous. They are ''warm,'' but it's canned heat. Feb 14, 2004 Full Review Ángel Luis Inurria El Pais (Spain) My Sweet Little Village, faithful to the standards of Czech comedy, is an enjoyable film. Audience Member A lighthearted comedy that serves as a vignette of what was life in rural Czech Republic Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review s r A entertaining Czech film about a small town and the relationships that influence. I expect this is what many communist towns in Eastern and Central Europe were like. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member An endlessly delicious and hilarious comedy with a wonderful cinematography and a large gallery of adorable characters living in a little Czech village (each with their own adorable peculiarity), relying also on a truly magnificent performance by János Bán. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Its quirkiness is too mannered and its transitions too abrupt to be of much consequence. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member How human this film is! There are no superheroes staring in it but people from the neighbourhood playing that special comedy called life. Playing it with all their hearts and fears. Thanks for films like that. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Sverak-scripted lumpen fluff centered around a manchild village idiot who serves to remind the members of his village that the status quo has its collectivized charms. Everything is played for laughs, but I found something despairing in the shots of Hrusinsky driving around in his crap Skoda quoting Karel Macha; the embodiment of surrender to a suffocating but not entirely disagreeable existence.
