This is one of the charming nonconflicting Czechoslovak comedy of the 70s. Recalling scenes from this film is bringing smile to my face...

Manet said the country only has charms for those not obliged to stay there, but for the Lavicka family even these qualified charms come with innumerable strings attached. Menzel's provincial comedy (scripted by Sverak & Smoljak) follows the mild comedy of errors which ensues when a family from Prague look into renting, and then buying, a cottage from an eccentric widower named Komarek. This is pure communist-era Czechoslovak escapsim, seemingly shot for the cost of a Trabant (it's all location, naturally lit) and filled with that mealy-mouthed sense of humor held in much esteem by Czechs.
