Gloria Duque (Victoria Abril), an alcoholic prostitute, is in the middle of a business deal with gangsters when a fatal confrontation occurs. She flees Mexico City, returning to her native Madrid, where she's reunited with her husband and his mother. Her husband is still in a coma after a bullfight, and his mother, Doña Julia (Pilar Bardem), tries to persuade Gloria to lead a more responsible life. Meanwhile, hit man Eduardo (Federico Luppi) is pursuing Gloria to retrieve information.

Daniel P May 25 Film que ganó el Goya a la mejor película (entre otros muchos premios como mejor actriz, director novel o actriz secundaria) siendo la más laureada ese año. Cabe destacar la sobrecogedora interpretación de Victoria Abril como Gloria Duque así como de Pilar Bardem como Doña Julia, dos mujeres contrapuestas que están obligadas a entenderse. En un mundo donde las apariencias marcan más que los filos de los cuchillos que protagonizan el momento más desenfrenado del film, la protagonista lucha por salvar de la muerte no solo su propia vida si no también la dignidad y el honor que un día dejó escapar.
