Brian Logan Guardian The production does a great job of capturing the unease, and the thrill, of being in the room with Palamides. Rated: 5/5 Dec 15, 2020 Full Review Kathryn VanArendonk New York Magazine/Vulture Nate is a festival of big, stupid jokes that happen right alongside a really rich, open-ended examination of hard, serious questions. Dec 15, 2020 Full Review Audra Schroeder The Daily Dot There's no resolution at the end of the hour. Nate takes off on his motorcycle, in a cloud of smoke. Now you're left sitting with the feelings. Rated: 4/5 Dec 15, 2020 Full Review Garrett Martin Paste Magazine Nate: A One Man Show is a daring farce about consent and machismo that's often hilarious and always provocative. Don't expect anything like a traditional stand-up show, which is one of its strengths. Rated: 9/10 Dec 15, 2020 Full Review Veronica Lee The Arts Desk Mixed signals are the whole point of this show, in which broad laughs are followed by gasps of realisation as Palamides takes a deep dive into issues of consent. Rated: 5/5 Dec 15, 2020 Full Review Poulomi Das Firstpost The special succeeds in revealing as much about a viewer as it does about Nate, unpacking our individual blindspots with a sensitivity that we perhaps might not have bestowed on someone grappling with theirs. Majestic C Easily the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life. Coming from someone who knows the pain of SA the joking "no. I raped you" "NO! I raped you" at the end was literally sickening to say it nicely. I'm glad I wasn't at the show. I wouldn't punched the person doing this skit in the face. Yes art is subjective. But consent isn't. I wouldn't even call this tacky. I call it mockery. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Ash R Truly one of the best (and sadly, very hidden) gems on Netflix. This kind of clowning is so inspiring and I'm glad it can be shown to a more mainstream audience. C'mon Nate, express yourself… Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Not at all what you expect, and yet you can't just stop. Certainly makes you think, but oddly gives few answers. It's an experience for sure. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny and weird, definitely give it a watch and see for yourself what really thinking outside the box looks like in comedy Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member The entire show walks a line (and wobbles back and forth) between power dynamics and trust. Any good-natured suspension of disbelief the audience gives the performer is slowly (and comically) disintegrated, where what remains is only the organic confusion from the things we (sometimes shakily) trust to be true about relationships in real life. Nate asks us to answer his question with a yes or a no, when the only honest answer we could give him would require him to understand more nuance than he seems capable of. In the end, it feels like he is on his way to understanding nuance, as he playfully teases him/her/themself about the uncomfortable experience HE had during the show. The audience may feel alone in their discomfort, but Nate(alie) has gone ahead, circled back, and told us what they learned. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Another special attacking the macho male stereotype. This trope wasn't funny when it was original.
