John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter This debut feature plays like a glum after-school special whose jealousies and painful secrets project little heat. Dec 22, 2016 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times There's little that comes off as "natural" in "Natural Selection," a stiffly heavy-handed, drawn-out, faith-based drama about a Christ-like teen struggling to find his true path. Aug 25, 2016 Full Review Ayurella Horn-Muller Film Threat Woefully, Natural Selection is unable to deliver. From the script to production quality, it plays off as overdone and out of touch. Rated: 2/5 May 31, 2018 Full Review Nathanael Hood The Young Folks ... it tries to be much more meaningful and intelligent than it is, wanting to make sweeping statements about humanity and cruelty but the end only manages to trip over its own contrived, soap opera dramatics. Joseph W I found this movie in the middle of the night after waking up to use the bathroom. Yall know how it is. Anyway, I enjoyed this movie very much and the actors did great for an indie movie. These people, especially the main characters seemed like they've had acting classes. The romance with Tyler and Paige is so sweet I wanted to rewind every time they were together! Only leaving a 4 because some aspects of the directing made it obvious it was indie. But great story where the school shooter and evil actually loses and good wins! This is how we all wish it would go and it was good to just see the possibility of hope in such situations. Finally, I love how the thread of faith in Yeshua as our only hope for salvation and Source of love and strength in this life was brought home. Not directly but indirectly without sacrificing reality. Because in real life people cuss and fight and drink--which Christian movies tend to leave out or not represent authentically--and let's us know that we can bring all of that to our Heavenly Father and He will redeem it ALL 😭 Thank you to everyone who brought this film to life! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I’m sure on paper natural selection looked interesting. It has good morals at the end and an interesting story. But the movie itself is poorly made. It’s extremely slow and boring. The script and acting are bland and the whole movie feels cheap. It’s a low budget film and it shows. The movie had some potential to be something meaningful towards the end but none of it really comes together. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/20 Full Review Audience Member Did anyone else notice that the kid that was shot in the opening scene was the Director? Its almost as if he's warning us. "This movie is so bad even I wanted to die after making it". Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Tries so hard to be dramatic and profound. There are no stakes, the characters are bland, and the pacing is a slow crawl. Just plain boring and visually uninteresting. Truly a movie where nothing happens.
