John A I was so impressed with this incredibly clever, and creative film ! Honestly-- from start to finish this project is seriously a brilliant work. I chuckled the whole time from the tongue-in-cheek, higher level comedic writing. The real-life personalities ,as well as the supporting cast did not need to soar on their own because the writing, filming and even original ( hilarious) songs are so strong. As a long time fan of witty, acerbic humor, I honestly hope the overall population can see, and enjoy this work by such a gifted filmmaker / writer . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/20/25 Full Review Craig J Don't want to give too much away, as it's great to watch this one unfold almost like the filmic version of origami. But I've gotta give you somethin', so here goes. Told in an almost ZELIG or CITIZEN KANE-prologue-esque documentary-like manner, the witty NEAR MYTH: THE OSKAR KNIGHT STORY unveils the life and times of one of the greatest Hollywood directors ... you've never heard of. But a bevy of famous performers and filmmakers - both past and present - make damn sure you'll never forget his name. It's a ball for anyone who loves the movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/25 Full Review Kolja Sebastian V Really liked to watch this fictional biopic. What a story -- too true to be fictitious ! Give me more, please. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Korina J "Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story" is a wonderful change of pace from the monotony of what modern entertainment has to offer. This fictional biopic is a witty, smart, glamorous, and heartwarming look at an Old Hollywood that I think I would have liked even more than the real one, and I'm a lover of Old Hollywood! Written and directed by Scott Fivelson, the legend behind "American Reel", this movie features lots of familiar stars from the many eras of Hollywood, including Lenny Von Dohlen as Oskar Knight, Oscar winner Margaret O'Brien, International Emmy winner David Suchet, Joaquim de Almeida, Julianna Guill, so many others. Come along with the charming Oskar Knight on his quest to win on Oscar night! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/17/23 Full Review Terence T Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story is an utter delight. It is in many ways a love letter to Old Hollywood and I think most classic film buffs will love the movie. The cast, which includes Margaret O'Brien and Noel Neill, do a fantastic job. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Like the Coen brothers' "Hail Caesar," "Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story" reminisces on the Golden Age of film. Unlike "Caesar," "Near Myth" is set in mockumentary format and chronicles the life and times of a fictional director. Featuring outstanding cast performances and an interesting, diverse musical score, "Near Myth" wryly captures the surging creativity and eccentricity of Hollywood. Highly recommended.
