Nelly (Emmanuelle Béart) can see that her life is headed downhill. Her husband, Jerôme (Charles Berling), hasn't had a job in ages, and the two are falling perilously behind in their rent. Good fortune comes Nelly's way when she meets Pierre Arnaud (Michel Serrault), a well-to-do businessman who, as if on a whim, settles her debts and hires her as his personal secretary. While Pierre's interest appears to be platonic, that changes when Nelly starts up a relationship with his publisher.

Audience Member story told with French elegance Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review andrey k This movie is good, but it lacks something that "A Heart In Winter" had, some elegancy. But still it's better than an average romance movie, it carefully and passionately touches on the subject of human interactions, on getting older, on loneliness. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The attraction develops delicately and the dilemma it brings is explored with subtlety... Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud is yet another film that fortifies my belief in French cinema... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm a sucker for Emmanuelle Beart films but I truly enjoy them from an artistic point of view. Nelly works well with Arnaud despite their difference in "years of experience". Chalk up another compelling French drama. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member a quiet but engaging movie that seems now like a period piece no cell phones macs, tablets etc but was current in 1995 Beart reminds me of a french angelina joolie great performances by all as a woman changes her life sheds her good for nothing loafer husband and begins to build a new life for herself with the help of a friend's former lover.
