      Critics Consensus

Much like a good long drive, Next Exit is a road trip movie whose uneven stretches of boredom and excitement somehow serve to sweeten the journey.

Jason Amazing performances and it was oddly heart-warming. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Brad H Was a good concept. But the arguing was way to much between the 2. It was cheesy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Zinhle M The ending was infuriating. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/17/23 Full Review Kemneth Steven M Very good. It takes you on a journey Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Anthony T Intriguing and wonderfully made, we need more movies that share the hope of carrying on. It's wonderful to watch the relationship develop and maybe shows what we really need, someone to share life with. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/07/23 Full Review dave d Katie Parker and Rahul Kohli have a fantastic chemistry in a road-trip romantic dramedy masquerading as a sci-fi flick. You can see the finish coming from miles away and there aren't a lot of laughs or answers. It isn't sci-fi hardly at all despite some flashes (literally) on the screen on occasion. This is supposedly about the afterlife, but it is uneven and doesn't connect to the ideas that we are introduced in the first act. Talented acting in an average film! Linda Marric The Jewish Chronicle Mali Elfman delivers one hell of a debut feature. Remember her name, you’ll be hearing it again and again. Rated: 4/5 Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian A fairly average road-trip movie about redemption with love as the answer to life’s meaninglessness. Rated: 3/5 Feb 13, 2023 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) An interesting conceit, and I sort of enjoyed it. Nov 30, 2022 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media There's familiarity to the road trip and odd couple tropes, which follow a fairly safe structure. But there's no denying the originality and overall impact that make this a strong debut from a director to watch. Rated: 4/5 Sep 5, 2023 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Elfman ultimately leaves us with a message of hope, (...) but she also misses the opportunity to do something more daring. Rated: 3/5 Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome An undercurrent of horror runs through Next Exit, and it’s mostly shown through a few jump scares that weaken the strengths of the film, and the over-reliance on romance at the end is disappointing. The journey is more interesting than the destination. Rated: 3/4 Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
