A fascinating blend of genre and familial dysfunction melodrama, weaving together the escapist fantasy of the manga (from which the film derives its name) and the plight of some resilient siblings. Go to Full Review
Lee Jutton Film Inquiry 04/17/2018
The film, a gorgeous exploration of life on the margins of Taipei society, doesn't have much in the way of a propulsive plot, but it makes up for that with rich atmosphere and characters that feel so real, you'll swear you just saw them walk by. Go to Full Review

One thing that intrigued me as in other Hou films like in A City of Sadness was how casually violence appears when you don't expect it. I think it's due to the general causal slice of life approach of his films. See more Read all reviews
