Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Night of Dark Shadows is bad, all right, but not merely bad. It is also shabby and unwholesome, made by people who take no joy in their work. It is a mean, evil little enterprise. Rated: 1/4 Jul 6, 2018 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A modest exploitation supernatural tale, that seems better suited to be soap opera day TV fare than a feature movie. Sabrina F I really wanted to love Night of Dark Shadows, but I was mostly bored. What I did like about this entry in the Dark Shadows franchise: the gothic, foreboding atmosphere, the gorgeous setting, and some strong performances, particularly by David Selby, John Karlen, and Grayson Hall, who steals every scene she is in. What I did not like: the meandering pacing, choppy editing, and the terribly repetitive score. This movie just felt uninspired and underdeveloped in some ways but overlong in other ways. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/21/23 Full Review CodyZamboni Watchable, but features really dumb characters. Why is this mess watchable ? It does have an effective old school horror atmosphere, and Kate Jackson is stunningly attractive. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review dave s Night of Dark Shadows is about as inept as a film can be, a dismal follow-up to the less than stellar House of Dark Shadows from the previous year. The convoluted plot is absurd, the acting is overwrought, the dialogue is embarrassing, the editing is choppy, the score rarely compliments what is happening on the screen, shots are poorly framed, the constant use of zooms quickly grows tiresome, the lighting is murky, the handheld cinematography is often nauseating, and the list goes on. There is really nothing to recommend about this (other than it being the debut of Kate Jackson, which isn't really much of anything), a movie truly without any redeeming values. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm a huge Dark Shadows fan from back in the day, & I so want to like this film more than I do. It's not bad by any means, but overall it's a listless viewing experience. I've read the script with the edited scenes, & I don't feel they would've helped the movie. It would've only make it longer. I only revisit it now & then because I enjoy watching Lara Parker & David Selby get their turn on the big screen. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review ashley h Night of Dark Shadows is a fantastic film. It is about a painter and his wife who move into a home and find themselves plagued by ghosts and spirits of his ancestors that used to be witches. David Selby and Grayson Kelly give terrific performances. The screenplay is good but a little slow in places. Dan Curtis did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and mystery. Night of Dark Shadows is a must see. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member No. DonÂ’t bother. Really.
