Michael Bronski Gay Community News (Boston) A solid, impressive piece of moviemaking. Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Ellen Cooney Sojourner In its low-key manner and its concentration on everyday reality the film emerges as one of the finest renderings of gay life in any medium. Audience Member Revolutionary flick. London end of the 1970s, underground where homosexual men could breathe out and be themselves. In normal life they had to pretend and - as shown in this movie - even fear to get sacked because of talking about their sexual inclination. This movie's subject is very interesting but the script is quite boring as well. And the soundtrack? The worst repetitive synthesizer disco I have heard in a long time. Good thing is the lack of taboo. Not to be watched by conservative people. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I found it extremely uninteresting for the first hour, having a dull lead character. I was more interested in the supply teacher and some of the one night stands. The premise was pretty much, go to club, pick up guy, have sex, arrange to meat up again once or twice. And repeat to fade. The last half hour however saves it from a rotten score for me, as when he drives his friend home and discusses his life with her, it gets a lot more interesting. It improves even further when he talks about his sexuality with his students. worth a watch, but not the classic it seems to think itself to be. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie shows a guy going to the bars to pick up a different guy every night. He struggles to come out of the closet but finally does. The end scene was really strange because it gives us the impression that the main character named Jim, goes on cruising, rather than settling down with a guy. It's a really good movie regardless of his promiscuous lifestyle. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member If this film's objective is to prove that gay life is as boring as normal life, it succeeds. Ridiculously long and tedious. Plenty of gay sex, a thing I don't personally enjoy. I understand the historical context of the begginings of gay cinema, but anyways it is a waist of time unless you are doing your PHD on the subject, or similar. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting to see that the behaviour of gay men has not actually changed since 1978 - and nor have many peoples apoinions of gay men. Style and dance wise we have definitely changed for the better. Glad I saw it as a historical piece but would not watch it again! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member brilliant! super engaging drama that leaves you pondering things. no easy ending (for once in a gay film...). interesting (and often funny) view of the 70s (gay) london and excellent acting. superbly directed. and the moustache... ;) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
